PeopleSoft institutions are being asked to make a decision they shouldn’t have to make. Stay on aging infrastructure and accept that your users and administrators are working with a dated application — or undertake a costly, years-long replacement project with no guarantee of success.
Neither option is good. Both are expensive in different ways. And both assume that the only path to a modern experience is a complete replacement of the system you’ve spent decades building.
TBGI exists to give PeopleSoft institutions a third option: modernize in place, tool by tool, at your pace, with no replacement project required.
The Envy control plane is a progressively expanding set of tools that delivers a completely modern user and administrator experience on top of the PeopleSoft foundation you already have. Your database stays. Your enhancements stay. Your business processes stay. Your staff’s expertise stays. Your users and administrators get a fresh, modern experience — without the pain of a replacement project.
The modernization happens incrementally. Each tool addresses a specific capability — environment management, development, testing, user experience — and each can be implemented independently, on your schedule, without disrupting what’s already working. There is no big-bang moment. There is no go-live risk. There is no point at which your institution is betting everything on a single implementation. You reduce your exposure at every stage, and you keep accumulating capability over time.
We use AWS-delivered services wherever they exist and are appropriate. Amazon has built, proven, and maintains an extraordinary set of infrastructure and platform services. We don’t reinvent what doesn’t need reinventing. When AWS offers a managed service that solves the problem, we use it.
Where AWS doesn’t cover it, TBGI’s custom automation handles it — scripted, predictable, repeatable. Deterministic code does exactly what it is told, every time. It doesn’t improvise. It doesn’t drift. It produces the same outcome whether it runs once or ten thousand times. The reliability of the Envy platform over eleven years in production is a direct result of this principle.
We believe in the power of AI. We also believe in predictable, reliable outcomes. Those two things are not in conflict — but they require discipline. We use AI only where it genuinely adds value that deterministic code cannot deliver. We never use AI for its own sake. And when we do use it, we use it with strong guardrails and humans in the loop at the stages that matter most.
In practice, that means a human is required at two critical points in every AI-assisted workflow: when the specification is finalized at the front end, and when the work is tested and validated before the pull request is closed at the back end. The AI accelerates everything in between. Nothing ships without human sign-off.
This is a deliberately contrarian position at a moment when every technology vendor is promising AI-powered everything. We think it’s the right one. Our clients’ environments are mission-critical. Their users depend on them. Their institutions depend on them. Reliable outcomes are not optional.
The Envy platform has been in continuous production since 2016, managing hundreds of PeopleSoft environments across major higher education institutions. It is an AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner platform, built by an AWS MSP Competency holder — a designation that reflects independently validated operational excellence across security, reliability, and managed services delivery.
TBGI co-authored the AWS whitepaper Automating PeopleSoft Environments in the AWS Cloud, available at tbginc.com. It is the technical foundation on which everything we build rests.
Our agentic tools are newer, but they are built on the same foundation and governed by the same principles. The philosophy that produced eleven years of production reliability is the same philosophy guiding every AI tool we ship.
